Durable Water Repellency (DWR) is a durable waterproofing treatment for fabric or knitwear that is added at the factory and provides water repellency. DWR technology prevents water from being absorbed by the fabric, making water condense on the surface and run off freely. This type of solution is used in the creation of clothing, shoes and in the manufacture of tents, among other things. Durable water "repelling" agents are commonly used in conjunction with waterproof and breathable fabrics. Operation of DWR is not permanent; wear and tear and contact with dirt or other contaminants result in a shorter shelf life. Signs of wear and tear also include increased product weight and condensation (a person has the impression of leaking fabric). Therefore, it is recommended to renew the coating if necessary.
